Winter Set

If you want to give a special lady in your life a gift she will never forget, make her this set of a hat, neck warmer, and wrist warmers! I found the softest yarn ever. It’s called Plymouth Yarn’s Sinsation. I used a little bit of Sinsation with Plymouth’s Encore Worsted to make some unforgettable projects.

You will need 1 skein of Plymouth Yarn’s Sinsation. You will also need 1 skein of Plymouth Yarn’s Encore Worsted. If you want to make a longer neck warmer than I did, you may need another skein of Encore Worsted.

For the hat, cast on 78 stitches with Sinsation. Knit 4 rows and change to Encore Worsted. Knit until the hat measures 6 inches from the beginning.

It’s time to make the top of the hat smaller. Your tail should be at the lower left corner of your knitting. In this row, decrease 6 stitches as follows: Knit 11 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 11 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 11 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 11 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 11 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 11, knit 2 together.
You should now have 72 stitches.
Knit 3 rows.
Your tail should be at the lower left corner of your knitting. Repeat the following for the entire row: Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 together.
You should now have 60 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Your tail should be at the lower left corner of your knitting. Repeat the following for the entire row: Knit 3 stitches, knit 2 together.
You should now have 48 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Your tail should be at the lower left corner of your knitting. Repeat the following for the entire row: Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together.
You should now have 36 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Your tail should be at the lower left corner of your knitting. Repeat the following for the entire row: Knit 1 stitches, knit 2 together.
You should now have 24 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Your tail should be at the lower left corner of your knitting. Repeat the following for the entire row: Knit 2 together.
You should now have 12 stitches.
Cut your yarn leaving a 24 inch tail.
Thread the tail through the eye of the yarn needle. Run the needle through the remaining stitches as you take the stitches off the needle. Pull tight.
Now we’re going to use the tail to sew up the back seam. Be sure to line up the seams together and pin them if you want to make sure they match.
Weave in any remaining loose ends.

For the neck warmer, cast on 15 stitches loosely with Sinsation. Knit for about 3 inches or 14 rows.
With your tail at the bottom, change to Encore Worsted and knit for an additional 21 inches.
With your tail at the bottom, change to Sinsation and knit for 3 inches or 14 rows so that it matches the other side.
Bind off loosely and weave in loose ends.

For the wrist warmers, cast on 30 stitches with Encore Worsted. Knit 52 rows (26 ridges). With the tail at the bottom, change to Sinsation. Knit 2 rows and bind off loosely. Make 2 of these.

With your garter stitch ridges laying horizontal (side to side) and not vertical (up and down) and the Sinsation trim at the top, take the left side corners and fold them over onto the right side corners so that you have a rectangle. The fold should be on the left hand side. Sew the points in the top right hand corner together and sew the seam for approximately 1 inch. Sew the points from the bottom right hand corner together. Do not sew the seam between them.

It’s time to try the wrist warmer on to see where to put the thumb hole. Put your hand through the cylinder. The top corner should be on the inside or palm of your hand – underneath your index finger and just above your thumb. Mark with a safety pin how big you want the thumb hole to be. My thumb hole is usually about 2 ½ inches long.

Take off the wrist warmer. To finish, leaving the thumb hold open, sew the rest of the seam down to the end.

Weave in loose ends.
